Modified Pajero bumper

Not wanting to spend the cash on an ARB or TBR winch bumper the next best thing was to modify the original bumper to fit a winch.

With some careful measuring and an outlined plan I bought an EP9 Goodwinch from David Bowyer with Dyneema-bowrope and a winch cradle. This option offered a good powerful winch and excellent winch rope which would more than do the job but also fit the required dimensions.

I then took an angle grinder to the bumper to cut out a slot for the winch. I then mounted some 4mm angle iron brackets which then bolted to the chassis with 6 x M12 hi-tensile steel bolts.

This was to be the base frame and was then cut to size and welded together to give a solid construction. The winch cradle then bolts to this frame. All that was left is to bolt the winch to the cradle.

The solenoids and controls are mounted in the engine bay as there was insufficient space and also keeps the electrics a little drier.

The number plate is mounted on hinges and lifts up when winching so the rope can be  monitored.
